What’s on your mind?

We want to know!

In this business, each of us in the newsroom gets between 100 and 300 emails a day.  Seriously.

That doesn’t even count the number of calls that come in to the newsroom.  There’s also Twitter, which gives us opportunities to get quick text hits from people about what’s going or what they want to know.  Facebook helps us have some levity with viewers, but also inform them and learn from them about what’s taking place in the community.

It’s all about information.  Our job here is to make sure you are the most informed person you can be with information about your community.

Yet, try as we might, it’s not always easy.  So, here’s another outlet.

We’re going to call it “Ask WECT.”  Evening anchor Jon Evans is going to head up this project of taking your questions and trying to find you an answer.  Ask us about anything.  Do you want to know about something in the community?  Ask away.  Are you curious about why we do something here at WECT or do you want to know about our on-air personalities?  Feel free to leave us a question.

We want to help you.  So, you can help us get started, by asking anything on your mind.

Drop us an email at askwect@wect.com and we’ll get started finding out the answer to something that interests you.

  2. For the past four decades, I’ve been traveling the highways of North Carolina.Being able to get from point (A) to point (B),my eye on the road and with no problem.Over the past few weeks I have witnessed at one point in time , eight DOT vechiles in tractors planting flower beds on the sholders of North Carolina highways. This evolution seems to be taking place in many locations, at this time. I’m seeing on the news, where the state farmers market booth rent was raised.Do to state budget cut backs.Along with various other state employment layoffs & cut back. My question is with the cost of fuel, fertilizer, manpower & other revinue required to support the planting of flowers on the side of the highway.Be better spent supporting North Carolina farmers & possibly save state employee jobs, which not only effects the employee but their familys as well. Or should we just eat the flowers when they come to blossom. It has been said,”Don’t bite the hand that feeds you…”

  4. I am having a problem. I am receiving a storm water bill for 806 N.6th a property that my son and I own in Wilmington. There isn’t a meter at this property and there are no buildings on this property. I have called and talked to people in the Cape Fear Public Utility Dept. about this problem and have been told that with out a meter or building there should not be any storm water charges. I am still getting a bill every two months. The last bill I received was in the amount of $29.90. Is this happening to others? Can you assist me is this matter? Thank you for listening. Nancy

  7. Just wondering why Al Gore was paid millions for lieing about global warming. If we are having global warming why did we just experience the coldest winter on record(since they have been keeping records) I think that he should be required to repay all the people that have given him money for misinformation. Just like our leaders should listen to the people about whether or not we like their ideas because we can vote them out which people should do if our leaders are spending money unwisely.
Makes you wonder where our minds really are.
Thanks, I really like your comments on myturn/yourturn.

  9. I am a 16 year old from Hampstead N.C.I wanted to bring a matter of great importance to the parents of the children who watch cartoon network.Lately this network has been creating a lot of shows, one of which I think many will disapprove of. This is the soon to premier “Regular show”. In the first commercial for this soon to come series there were two characters seeming to “tell of” another. While doing this they pointed at their groins and loudly declared ” DON’T STARE AT OR CROTCHES WHILE WE SYNCHRONIZE OUR WATCHES.” This is highly unacceptable especially due to the vast youth audience that views this network. I have nothing against Cartoon Network, but we cannot let young children see such vulgarity.
Please tell people about this so that it may stop this one show from being created.
