  1. Let me begin by saying I am a Toyota owner and have been for over 25 years. This week I was on the lot at Toyota of Wilmington and took notice to the Flag. The Flag on their lot is filthy and a disgrace to our country. I tried to telephone the facilities manager several times, but only received voicemails. I understand they are quite busy now with the recalls, but can someone at least answer the phone. Americans have supported Toyota for decades and I do not think this is asking too much. Please replace the FLAG.

    • The flag is just a symbol of whats wrong, all over town and NC we have politicians that do there job as a hobby!!!! i go to school downtown and see the misuse of funds on things the city does not need and think of the loss of $ that is the makeup of $ issues.
The representives have no interest but to make themselves look as good as possible and blow money on crap that does not help the community at all. who thinks that the azela festival commitee needs ten cops escorting them round town. nice waste of police funds. Downtown changing the whole road up just to put plants in the middle where front street is in front of the new parking deck at cfcc. nice waste of money there. These r the people that drown the community down foer there perceptions of what they want. needless to say that is very childish and inmature , now they community is to pay for there issues probaly forevere.
the time is here for a revolution against these people that have no idea whats best for the state, eventually people will get the hell out of here. i am trying tooo, just have family here. honestly do people think it will get any better with what has been witnessed with $ losses and the budget in shambles.

  2. Approximately two weeks ago, I withdrew my 17 old son, Troy, from Laney HS. He was having some personal problems at school. He was a junior with a 4.0 GPA and he needs a English & Science credit to graduate. He will be registering this Friday at CFCC to receive his HS diploma. He is an excellent student but he is still considered a high school drop out! He received a letter from the DVM in Raleigh,NC stating that is drivers license will be revoked on 3/21/2010. I’ve spoken with the DMV, Laney HS, CFCC & the Superintendent of Schools office. Nobody can help me resolve this problem. I would appreciate any help you can give me. I understand the NC law about driving privileges being revoked for children under the age of 18 who don’t want to attend school. My son wants to attend CFCC but he can’t get there if he can’t drive. Please Help!! Thank you!

  3. Has WECT considered responding to the NBC Nightly News “Fleecing of America” report of 03/17/2010 concerning the beach nourishment at Kure Beach? Though I watch Mr. Williams (and have watched NBC nightly news for many years) regularly, I feel the information given highly biased, without comment(s) from Kure Beach officials and the information given in this short segment was simply incomplete and not entirely factual.
I am tempted to comment directly to NBC, but feel in many ways that you station, as the NBC affiliate, may have more success in lodging a “complaint”.

  4. My 11 year old son came home from Cape Fear Elementary School the other day…
And told me he and and others were threatened on the School bus on the way home from Cape Fear Elementary…
A Boy had a Knife holding it at them asking them if they were scared…
My son and others got off the bus at Earlier stops to Avoid him after reporting him to the Bus driver…
The Bus driver did not go back to the school and report It that day…
The next day they checked the kid to try and find the knife on him…
Then he went home on the Bus that afternoon with the same kids and bragged about Being lucky he left his Knife at home…
Then my wife went to the School and told them about It and that is when they Checked the Kid for weapons…

Not saying my son is an Angel by no means he was caught Once with a Leather mans tool that a friend give him…
That he spent the night with the day before…
But he fessed up to it and knew he was wrong…
I picked him up from School that day because they wanted him to serve his punishment right then…
He got 5 Day’s suspension and payed his dues…
But he did not threaten anyone or try to cause any bodily harm to anyone…

My son and the Others have to live in Fear at School from this kid…
They have to see him everyday at School and on the Bus like nothing happened…

There is another kid that punched him in the stomach…
He gets like time outs in School…
And my Son has been suspended for less…

In the last school year he was pushed by a kid and it busted his Fore head open and had to get stitches…
Nothing was done about It and the kid went on picking on him through the rest of the Year…

What will it take to make my Son feel safe in his School…
Or will it get to a point where we are called and our child Is fighting for his life In a Hospital…

We have notified the School Board…
Filed a Report with the Pender County Sheriffs office…(Officer Strickland)

The Principal of Cape Fear Elementary Has been notified and she would not go to her office for a private meeting…
But she decided to have a meeting with my wife amongst a lot of spectators out side of the office…
And made the things my son is going through public Knowledge…
So now everyone knows about it…

So my son is now In Danger from others knowing he has told what happened…
The Principal should have known Better…

Signed Worried Parents…(Any help will be appreciated)

  5. I live at Point South apts. I was 35 min. late paying my rent this month, is it right for them to charge me $240.00 for my late fee? Rent is due at 5pm on the 5th of every month, I paid it at 5:35 pm, now they are charging me $240.00 for late fees! How fair is that? I had the money for rent, but it completely spaced my mind, once I remembered I paid it right away and it was 35 min. late, and I have to pay that amount! I beg and pleeded for them to please let me off with a warning and it will never be late again, they don’t care, I can not afford that amount, I even told them I would pay 100.00, but they don’t care, they are making me pay it or I will be evected. I have never been late before on a rent payment and the 1 time I am (35 mins.) this happens! Please help me to understand how this is fair to do to people.

  8. I just want to know is it wrong for me to be pissed off at the Burger King in St. Pauls Manger. I got food from there today and was eating my burger on my break and was trying to swallow a bite of it and felt something ruff. I spit it out and there was a sticker in my food. I took it back and the girl at the register was like did you just come through the Drive thru, whats wrong? I told her yeah and showed the sticker to her she was like Omg thats not suppose to be in there and she apologized and they went and got the manager. He come and looks and was like ” Oh thats just a day dot, we put those on our pans.” I’m sitting there looking at him waiting for the I’m sorry but it never came. He just kept saying its a day dot. I am so pissed off because I know how much we have to keep saying sorry at my job when we screw up. I think if you are a manager you need to step it up if thats you job. Im sorry goes a long way when you really mean it…..or when you at least say it.

  9. I would like to know if the animal control gets paid by tax payers money. We called them March 23 and asked them to come out and pick up two ferious pit bulls that were left abandoned by their owners, they tried to attack my son when he got off the bus. They told us they could’nt be there until the next day. We were also given the wrong information from them, stating that if they were attacking my dog we could not do anything to them unless they kill my dog.We later found out when we called the sheriff to our house that this info was not correct. The dogs came back that night and killed my dog Max, who was a big part of our family. This is wrong, we tried to abide by the law, and just have the dogs removed before anyone was hurt, but animal control did’nt do their job. Is there anything that can be done about this. Sandi

  13. Our government on Food Stamps ;Not only are our tax dollars paying for 1/2 of Wilmington to eat, They are being traded for money and any person can use this card. The name of the person receiving the assistance is on the card, but there is no other I.D. required. They should have to show I.D. along w/ the card. They are also not able to purchase hot food items in the store (but can buy it cold),No tobacco alcohol or none eatable items,But they can buy ALL the thick (expensive) juicy steaks they want!
If they are thirsty in line they can reach down in the cooler at the check-out and grab a 16oz. soda if they like.Thats covered too.You can see for yourself at the begining of every month at Wal-Mart or any grocery store you choose just who and how your tax dollars are being spent as YOU stroll through the store working a budget in your mind.Maybe if the money was put on their card each week,It could be monitored and hopefully they would be more careful and the government could see if their needs are being met or abused .This OLD government plan needs to be investigated by WECT . With jobs so hard to come by why should they even bother to try and get one.People from other countries have got it made when they come to ours.We will take care of them before we take care of our own.It makes it so hard for me to love my country anymore.PLEASE HAVE A MEMBER OF YOUR STAFF CHECK INTO THIS.You are the first news team I came to and trust.

  14. Do you plan to include Democratic candidates in your Decision 2010 interviews?

    Comment by Ken — April 5, 2010 @ 9:45 pm | Reply

    • Yes. We had on Louie Lewis — sheriff’s candidate in Brunswick County yesterday. Upcoming interviews with Democratic candidates include Butch Pope in the DA race in Brunswick, Columbus and Bladen, along with Susi Hamilton and James Utley in NC House District 18.

      Comment by WECT — April 13, 2010 @ 6:42 pm | Reply

      • Four Democratic candidates, maybe. If we look at the number of interviews there is a clear bias in favor of Republican candidates. Most of them aren’t too bright, so the impact may actually be the opposite of what your GM is trying to achieve.

  19. There is a dead bear laying in the side of the road on I40 Northbound, near the Wallace exit, right now 7:36am 4-20-10, according to a friend who drives that way every morning.

There was a dead bear on the same stretch of I40 about 2 and a half years ago according to this same friend. What’s up with all the bears in this part of NC?

  20. Since we are in a beach community and are spending millions of dollars to attract tourists, I would like to know why Kure Beach is charging $250 to put up a tent on PRIVATE PROPERTY in their town!!! This is ridiculous!!
We have reserved a tent for apx 50 people, which is not a large gathering, and the town is charging us $250 for a BUILDING PERMIT!!!! How crazy is that!! The tent only cost $225, so why are we being forced to pay more for a building permit than for a tent that will only be up for 3 days?? It seems to me that the money they are spending to attract people to this area is just another example of money being flushed down the toilet.

  21. There has been a lot of news about cuts to school budgets of late. First I would like to say that school budgets should never be cut, our children are our future and if they are not educated right how will they be able to lead in the future.

So here is are questions. Where is the money from the educational lottery going if we keep having to cut school funding? How many cents on the dollar are actually going to schools? Some state funding accounts are set up so that they can be robbed for other programs, is this the case with the lottery money adn if so where is it going?

I would love to see this covered on the evening news too.

    Thanks,

    Michael E. Bronson, BSTM
