Last Chance

Filed under: Uncategorized — WECT @ 4:17 pm

This is your last chance for news in 2008 and it will be a memorable day at WECT.  You won’t want to miss our newscast at 6 tonight for an announcement of a change at the station.   We’ve prepared some special reports to go with the announcement that should make for a funny and interesting half hour.

We’re also out looking for news outside our building today.  Reporter Max Winitz is checking on a dispute between Time-Warner and one of it’s content providers.   The result could change what you see on TV if you’re a Time-Warner subscriber.

Reporter Gavin Johnson is finding out about the State Patrol effort to curtail drunk driving tonight and he’s also preparing a report about some of tonight’s festivities.

We’re also running down a few other stories but, as I said, don’t miss the news at 6…

  1. George said he was going to stay in Wilmington. Will he be working at a different station? What is his status?

  2. I’m confused. I see your news regularly. But I must have blinked. What happened to your regular weather forecasters? George, and… well, now I’m having a senior moment… but the younger weather forecaster who we regularly see on your nightly weather report has vanished! Where in the world did he go? Was he fired, or “let go”??? He was the best thing to happen to Wilmington weather forecasting in the ten years I have lived here. He uses excellent Wx forecasting computer techniques/graphics. I always felt like I really knew what was going on with the weather when I saw his forecast. George is great, don’t get me wrong, but he’s a little wishy-washy on the details. I like the details. I want my weatherman back! Where did he go? Why did you let him go???

  3. I missed the announcement on the 31st. Who is leaving? Notice that George and Craig seem to be gone. Read that Jim H. is leaving. A lot of old friends are going away.

  4. I agree with the other comments. Craig was your best weatherman. He and George just disappeared. Viewers feel that they get to know these people, after seeing them for years. Then, on January 1, I turn on the news, and here are 2 strange young men doing the weather. No explanation of what happened to the familiar forecasters we have become so used to.
I realize that your reporters, especially the young ones, move on in pursuit of their career, but when long serving anchors like Craig and George move on, I think you owe it to your long term viewers to provide an explanation.
After Jan i, I looked on your website – no explanation. I had to look in Wikipedia to find out where they went to.
    Not very customer [viewer] friendly.

  5. Thank you for the update about some recent changes at the station. Jim, I am glad you are getting a good opportunity, but you will be missed here. I always enjoyed your newscasts – and your humorous word twists, too. I wish you and George and Craig all the best.

  6. Hi Folks,

An update on the situation here. George and Craig have both left, Craig for a TV job in Missouri. George is staying in Wilmington for the time being and we’re waiting to hear his next move. This is my final week here. I’m moving to Charlottesville, Virginia for a TV management job that should give me a more secure future. Hope so, at least.

For those who read this blog regularly, and thank you for that, this will be my final week posting.

    Take care,

    jim
